AD PICKS OF THE MONTH

January 2021 TV and other Video-based Ads of the Month

Published February 4, 2021

1

Macmillan Cancer Support's "Whatever It Takes" TV ad created with BBDO UK. This is quite a tribute to the single-mindedness of caregivers in the performance of their job.

2

Veloz's "40 Million Reasons to Go Electric" content marketing video ad created with Superconductor, USA. This proceeds like a 1950s animation work on the American Dream idea, but updated for today's technologies, concerns, and―oh yes―dreams.

3

Australian Lamb's "Make Lamb, Not Walls" TV ad created with The Monkeys, Australia. All apologies to the USA's red-blue divisiveness, threats of secession from some of its states, and conservative obsession with walls. Not that Australia hasn't its own share of social conservatism and xenophobia.

4

Girl Up's "Today We Rise" TV ad created with Ogilvy, USA. A kind of celebratory recording of a historic American event, shot from the point of view of political fans.

5

Snickers Nut Brownie's "Stanimal" TV ad created with BBDO, USA. Another one for human narrative humor, and for what looks like an "animal"'s self-deprecating one.

6

FitTracks' "One Size Fits One" TV ad created with The Garden, Canada. Quite a social document and rally, this.

7

826 National's "Poets in Revolt" video, a part of an integrated marketing campaign created with Barkley Inc., USA. Featuring some of the kid-friendly comic-book graphics in the eponymous book, this ad with its voices of teen poets promoting Poets in Revolt (the book) has just rendered poetry outside of hip hop cool. Obviously teachers will have a breeze teaching what's in this young adult anthology.

8

Chipotle Mexican Grill's "Can a Burrito Change the World? (30-second edit)" TV ad created with Venables Bell & Partners, USA. A question by a young man has been self-posed. Then he posits his prompt answer. Not that his older sibling doesn't already know these things that he does.

9

Food manufacturer Tilda's "Elevate Your Plate" TV ad created with Havas UK. This one salutes the culinary arts and food porn from the position of glamorously-packaged rice.

10

Gulf States Toyota's "New Boyfriend" TV ad created with MMB, USA. If almost always it's size that matters to men, it's always space that matters most to respectable daughters' fathers.

11

Bluebella's "Love Your Passion" digital ad video created with My Perfect Cousin, UK. Another strong social commentary of a product ad.

12

Kondomeriet's "The Relationship" TV ad created with POL, Norway. A visualization of a metonymy for/from a manufacturer of metonymic things.

13

New York Lottery's "The Multiplier" TV ad created with McCann, USA. Another fine example of ridicule from advertising's lexicon.

14

Vroom Inc.'s official Super Bowl big game TV ad "Dealership Pain" created with Anomaly, USA. Of course hyperbole still works.

15

Volkswagen's TV ad "The Wheel" created with Johannes Leonardo, USA

16

Carlsberg 0.0's 2021 "Probably the best beer in the world" TV ad created with Grey Denmark

17

Quorn's "Helping The Planet One Bite At A Time" TV ad created with DDB UK

18

The Coconut Collaborative's "Free from Dairy, but not Temptation" TV ad created with Big Fish, UK

19

Cadbury Creme Egg's "It's the Creme Egg Golden Goobilee!" TV ad created with Elvis, UK

20

General Motors' "Generation E" TV ad

21

CNN's "Matter of Trust (30-second edit)" TV ad produced with Minted Content

22

Vital Farms' "Enthusiasm," "Good News," "A Lot to Say" and "Good Story" TV ads from the Cage-Free film ad series created with Preacher, USA

23

Gulf States Toyota's "Pancake" TV ad created with MMB, USA

24

GEICO Insurance's "Tag Team Helps With Dessert" TV ad created with The Martin Agency, USA

25

Beagle Street's "Golden Arch" and "First Night" TV ads from the Insurance for Life series created with Creature, UK

26

"So delicious you'll look past anything" from Eskort's It's Eskort new-positioning TV ad series created by MetropolitanRepublic, South Africa
